Bristol Bucket List Pt 2
Welcome back to our Bristol Bucket list! We’ve put together a list of the top things to do while in Bristol. Now we're going out and testing them for ourselves to help give you an idea of what may be in store for you during your stay!
For our Bristol Bucket List part 2, we've headed over to Cotham and Redland to see what interesting things this part of Bristol had to offer. And as usual, it didn’t disappoint!
Lovers Walk
Lovers Walk in between Cotham and Redland is a cute little walk through Cotham Gardens and over Redland Train station. With its old fashioned bridge and quirky lamp posts, you could easily get lost in time here and spend hours reading, painting or watching time go by. Cotham Gardens and Grove Park are perfect if you’re in need of some fresh air, want to entertain the kids (there's a sizeable play park too) or for any dog walkers.
Train Spotting
Standing on the old Victorian bridge of Lovers Walk, you can look down onto the Redland Train station and watch the trains come and go. This is perfect entertainment for the little ones and being only a few minutes from the Cotham Gardens play area, it’s a great activity for a family afternoon out. It’s also the perfect place for a photo op.
The House that Smells
Tucked away in a quiet street in Redland just across from Cotham Gardens, is the pink house famous for having a huge nose on the side of it, known as ‘the house that smells’. After suddenly appearing as a pink fibreglass nose in the mid-’90s, it has since been replaced with willow due to damages. Although this might not be a reason to visit Bristol, it certainly is weird and wonderful enough to warrant paying it a visit while you’re here!
Cosy Locals
If you’re looking for a proper pub, then Cotham and Redland are the perfect areas to find one. The Clyde in Redland is the last ‘Real Pub’ in Redland and you can tell it’s a proper boozer as soon as you walk in. If you’re looking for somewhere to hang out after work or on the weekend, this place is great. With a pool table, darts, jukebox and a well-stocked bar with friendly staff, what more could you need?
Just a short walk up from the Clyde is the Shakespeare pub. With a lovely interior, lively atmosphere and both brilliant service and food, this place is somewhere you’ll want to go back to. They host a pub quiz on a Monday, great for a friendly social and they serve delicious freshly prepared food. If you’re in the area, make sure to pop in!
Additionals!
In addition to what we did today, if you’re in the Cotham/Redland area, you might also want to try out some of these things that we didn’t get around to doing… Pop into Cotham Porter Stores and Hare on the Hill, stop off and eat al fresco on Cotham Hill, and take the Redland train to Severn Beach. Make sure to tag us in any of your Bristol adventures!
