Bristol Bucket List
Bristol Bucket List
Hello, and welcome to our Bristol Bucket list! We’ve compiled a list of the top things to do while in Bristol and we will be going out and testing them for ourselves to help give you an idea of what may be in store for you during your stay! If you’re planning your visit to Bristol, then get out your notepads, as we have a great guide to keep you busy.
This weekend we started off our Bristol Bucket list guide in Clifton, the heart of Bristol! Known for its history, beautiful architecture and independent boutiques and bars, Clifton should definitely be on your priority list when you visit.
Clifton Suspension Bridge
If you’re looking for a beautiful sight to see in the middle of a bustling city then you’re in luck -The Clifton suspension bridge is an iconic landmark for a reason!
A short walk from Clifton Village and a quick climb up the hill will take you to a great viewpoint. Here, you’ll have a fantastic sight of the bridge which was designed by Isambard Brunel and constructed in 1864. Standing 101m over Avon Gorge, you’re bound to be impressed by the view, no matter the weather.
Clifton Rock Slide
Once you’ve reached the Clifton bridge view point, you’ll be met with scrambling groups of children at the Clifton Rock slide. This, I’ve been told, is a popular and well established landmark in Bristol, where people travel to from far and wide to slide on their bums down this now smooth rock face. But, as a warning to any adventurous adults looking to put the small and slow children to shame … the rock can be far deadlier than It appears! When picking up speed, make sure to prepare for a rocky landing - literally. Ouch!
Observatory and cave
If after all the excitement of racing down the Clifton Rock Slide, you need something to bring the energy levels down, why not pop into the Observatory where they have the 360 café for some light refreshments. Within the Observatory you’ll also find the Camera Obscura, a Victorian camera located in the Observatory tower, where you can get an old timely view of the Clifton suspension bridge.
Then, just around the corner from the Observatory café is the entrance to Giants cave. Here you can take a tour around the cave, which is carved from limestone and faces out onto the Avon Gorge halfway down the cliff. For only a couple of quid per person, this is a cheap and cheerful activity that you’ll treasure forever.
Corrie Tap
Now that you’ve had a fun afternoon making memories you’ll treasure forever, it’s time to experience what the West Country is famous for! Head on over for a swift half-pint at the Coronation Tap to try out their famous Exhibition Cider. Known for its high strength of 8.5%. Their Exhibition cider is only sold by half pints, and they have attracted Bristol newbies, like me, with their ’10 before10’ challenge! Opening at 7pm, if you want to try and beat this challenge, a good lunch and plenty of water are recommended!
