What's On This May
Festival season have officially arrived in the West Country and we can’t wait for the festivities to begin. May is jam packed with events for everyone – so whether you’re a theatre buff, a music fan or a keen foodie, Bristol’s got something for you!
1. Bristol Walk Fest – 1st-31st of May
This month long festival is the perfect way to get moving and explore this wonderful City. Now in its sixth year, the festival attracts over 500 walkers from across the country to enjoy all of Bristol’s best walks. With a variety of different walks on offer, you can enjoy Bristol’s booming street art scene, soak up the city’s rich history or just enjoy the fresh air of a nature walk – most of the events are free so everyone will be happy! After a break in 2017, theatre goers can breathe a sigh of relief as Mayfest returns to Bristol for its 15th year. Celebrating thought-provoking new work from artists across the world, the eclectic mix of theatre means that Bristol is really in for a treat. Taking over venues from St George’s to The Arnolfini to Old Market, Mayfest really is a showcase of the best of Bristol theatre. 3. Foodies Festival – 11th-13th of May
Durdham Down will be taken over this May by an explosion of excellent food, drink and music for Foodies Festival 2018. This mouth-watering event includes live baking from Great British Bakeoff finalist 2017 Stephen Carter Bailey, Michelin starred chefs Josh Eggleton and Robert Potter as well as musical performances from The Hoosiers and Toploader – a brilliant excuse for a mid-month party. The festival is home to over 30 street food stalls (found in the Street Food Avenue) as well as a Gin Station, chocolate making and a Kidzone which offers cooking classes especially for little chefs. 4. Dot to Dot Festival – 26th of May
Spanning three cities across the UK, Bristol welcomes Dot to Dot Festival on Saturday the 26th of May this year. Showcasing some of the UK’s finest emerging artists, Dot to Dot is a unique festival that tours Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham with their full line-up all in one weekend. Different music venues will be filled up around the city all day with acts such as The Horrors, Pale Waves and Peach Pit. 5. HowTheLightGetsIn – 25th-28th of May
If you fancy going a little further a field this May Bank Holiday, why not pop across the Severn Bridge and visit HowTheLightGetsIn Festival in Hay-on-Wye. The world’s biggest Philosophy and Music Festival, HowTheLightGetsIn is a unique mix of debates, talks and music as well as comedy, a vintage fayre and even long table banquets. This year the line-up includes Noam Chomsky, Diane Abbott and The Orb – you can always find something for everyone. Why not upgrade your stay at the festival and stay in a luxury yurt? 6. Love Saves The Day – 26th-27th of May
Returning for its seventh year of celebrating diverse music and culture, Love Saves The Day returns to Bristol this month. Combining Bristol’s thriving underground music scene and acts from around the globe, the festival is a dynamic spaces for creativity, emerging and established artists and of course the vibrant after parties. This year the line-up includes Fatboy Slim, Tom Misch and Loyle Carner, as well as many more outstanding artists – there are ticket options for just one day or the whole weekend, so don’t miss Bristol’s biggest weekend party!
