Best of Bristol's Outdoor Activities

So last month we covered the best food festivals Bristol has to offer and there were a lot! Just so we don’t get too carried away and have to say goodbye to our summer body before summer has even started, this month we thought we better check out the activities  that will make us feel a bit less bad for having that extra helping of burnt ends from Grillstock!

SUP Bristol

SUP or Stand Up Paddleboarding sounds half hilarious and half terrifying. We are tempted though! Glide, well we like to think we would be gliding, round the harbourside and enjoy the view from a completely different perspective while testing your nerve and your balance! This one definitely sounds like the type of thing that would be perfect for a big group so rope your mates in and book now!

Cycle the City

Local or tourist, what better way to explore the city than on two wheels. Hire bikes for the day and go it alone or sign up to one of the many informal guided tours Cycle the City has to offer. Discover beautiful landmarks and viewpoints around the city and take in some of that great Bristol air. We hear that there is the odd pub stop along the route too, not that we are encouraging you!

ClimbBristol

For any adrenaline junkies out there this one is for you. ClimbBristol is a community project that was created to maintain and promote the Avon Gorge as a climbing venue back in 2012. Since then it has relied on local volunteer climbers, but has gone from strength to strength. There are over 1000 different climbs in the gorge so there is something for both the expert climbers and the beginners like us. Get a sweat on and take in some of the fantastic views…if you can bear to open your eyes!

No. 7 Boat Trips

If you think you have had your fill of intense outdoor activities by now then here is something that is a little more relaxing. Cruise up the River Avon and take in the sights with No. 7 boat trips. Our particular favourite is a boat cruise that ends up at Beeses Tea Garden for the afternoon. This one sounds ideal, however probably not helping much towards that honed beach body! Oh well, there’s always next year!

Arnos Vale Cemetery

Now please don’t be horrified at the fact the heading says cemetery. That is the subject, but it is so much more than that and nothing like the picture you have in your head. Set in 45 peaceful acres the story of the city is told. Lose yourself within the historic monuments, beautiful architecture and winding walks. Described as one of Britain’s best examples of a Victorian garden cemetery, it is a rare gem hidden amongst everyone’s busy city life. Think more secret garden than cemetery. We’ll be heading here on a sunny afternoon to escape the hustle and bustle!
