Breakfast Done the Right Way
Bristol’s food scene is booming and breakfast is fast becoming the biggest social event of the weekend (on a Sunday morning, of course!). However, with all the different choices of where to munch on your brunch, how could you ever decide? Luckily, we’ve narrowed down the choices to bring you the best breakfast spots in the city, so get ready for yummy porridge, delicious fry ups and the best pancakes you could ever dream of…
1. East Village
If you’re looking for the perfectly Instagram-able breakfast plate, look no further than East Village. Tucked away in the heart of Clifton, you’ll have your choice of all vegetarian options including corn and quinoa waffles, gourmet granola and even their outstanding shakshouka. The little café’s healthy, plant based approach means that you’re in for a scrumptious and filling breakfast (we can also recommend the smoothies - they’re definitely the perfect way to start your Sunday).
Racks is known for its bargain £5 lunches, but breakfast is also a big deal at the restaurant. On top of a choice of mouth-watering hot food, they also put on a buffet of fruit, cereal and hot drinks for you to enjoy. If you’re really ravenous, try The Racks Breakfast – with sausage, bacon, eggs, bubble and squeak, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and toast, it’s definitely got the whole lot. Why not go for a boozy brunch and order a Bloody Mary with your breakfast? It’s the best way to brunch!
Bristol’s best-loved sun trap, the Primrose Café is a hidden treasure of Clifton. Their breakfast and Sunday Brunch menus are guaranteed to keep everyone happy with a selection of full English breakfasts, Belgian waffles and even the option of some bubbly buck’s fizz. Family-run for nearly 25 years, the café is definitely a favourite among locals and is one of the city’s most popular spots to relax (and if you’re stuck on what to get from their extensive menu, we’d highly recommend the toasted banana bread – it’s definitely our favourite Sunday treat!).
4. Bakesmiths
This local eatery on Whiteladies Road features some of the most delicious brunch options around! A relatively new addition to Bristol’s breakfast scene, Bakesmith’s has certainly put breakfast baking back on the map, with delicious choices including filled brioche buns, babaganoush and the Full Bakesmiths, all served on fresh sourdough toast. You better be b-ready for this bakery!
5. Pinkmans
A Bristol Good Food Awards multiple nominee, Pinkmans is definitely one of the crème de la crème of breakfast choices. They have a plethora of breads (their trademark country cob is not to be missed) as well as mouth-watering pastries, granola, yoghurt and a full breakfast menu to suit any diet. The custard dipped brioche with blueberry compote and crème fraiche is definitely a must-try!
Another hidden gem of Clifton to make our list, Caffe Clifton is the perfect central spot for a relaxing pastry and coffee for a lazy Sunday morning, or a quick portion of filling toast and jam for your weekday mornings. Pastries are freshly baked and the outside seating area means you can really enjoy those warm summer mornings in the sunshine. Of course, this independent café specialises in its fine coffee and uniquely blended teas, so it’s perfect for food lovers and keen coffee tasters alike!
