August in Bristol

In light of the inconsistent summer weather Bristol has been delivering we’ve opted for a bit of a mix this month. Indoor activities to keep you busy if the rain is persistent and outdoor activities so you can soak up the rays if the sun decides to make an appearance. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for sunshine as the Balloon Fiesta is our highlight this month!

Circomedia Summer School     31st Jul - 4th Aug

The summer holidays are finally here so let’s kick things off with one for the kids. Keep them out of mischief, the first week of August at least, with the Circomedia Youth Circus summer extravaganza. They’ll learn all sorts of circus tricks over the week and then when they are fully rehearsed have the chance to put on a showcase for family and friends! Book tickets here.

Summer Stargazing 3D at At-Bristol     Until 5th Sept

So if you find the weather hasn’t been holding up but you feel in need of experiencing the outdoors, At-Bristol have just the thing. Make like Brian Cox and do a little bit of stargazing. The Planetarium system is the best in the UK so you really are set for an incredible show.

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta     10th - 13th Aug

Our highlight of the month and really, how could it not be?! Famous for being Europe’s largest annual meeting of hot air balloons it’s truly a spectacle that has to be seen to be believed. It is completely free of charge and fair ground rides, games and food traders complete the event.

Play me I’m yours     17th Aug - 7th Sept

Finally end the month on a high note, quite literally, as grand pianos will be filling the streets of Bristol. Play me I’m Yours is an artwork made up of individually-decorated street pianos from Bristol artist Luke Jerram. The pianos will make up an art trail for people to follow, explore and even have a play! This one is set to bring all sorts of surprises.
