A Perfect Day in Clifton

Clifton is arguably Bristol’s most coveted area so it is highly recommended that you pay a visit there on your trip to Bristol. And if you are staying in Clifton already then lucky you! Either way, we have come up with a plan to help you to make the most of your time in Clifton.

Breakfast

primrose cafe

Start your day the right way with a leisurely breakfast at the Primrose Café and Bistro. A Clifton Village gem serving delicious meals from locally-sourced produce, the Primrose is located on a cosy cobbled cul-de-sac and boasts outdoor seating for those elusive, but wonderful, dry and sunny days. Breakfasts range from a very reasonably-priced Full English to lighter options such as Eggs Royale and Posh Mushrooms on Toast.

Morning Stroll

Cliftonsuspensionbridge

It would be a crime to visit Clifton and not take a walk along the Clifton Suspension Bridge. It is free for pedestrians to cross and on a clear day you can enjoy breathtaking views across Clifton, the gorge and the rest of the city.

Morning Coffee

cafe clifton

Venture out of Clifton Village and towards Whiteladies Road. Pop into Caffé Clifton on your way, a charming local café that offers an endless list of teas, coffees, cakes and other treats. The café has a very cosy interior and, like the Primrose, offers outdoor seating should the rain cease to fall for a brief time. The Cliftonites are an optimistic bunch!

Lunch

burger joint

After a busy Clifton morning of lounging about, why not tuck in to the biggest burger you have ever laid eyes on? The Burger Joint on Whiteladies Road is a Clifton legend and rightly so. Throw the menu out the window and create your dream burger from scratch.

Afternoon

lido

If you have experienced a burst of energy after your indulgent lunch then wander along to Clifton Down, a lovely open green space where you can enjoy a stroll. Bristol Zoo Gardens is located nearby for another brilliant way to spend your afternoon. Alternatively, if you are feeling full and drowsy rather than energetic post-Burger Joint, then head back towards the centre of Clifton and visit The Lido, which is housed in a Grade 2* listed building. Here you can relax, enjoy a spa treatment and swim in the open-air pool, which is open whatever the weather.

Drinks

white lion bar

Before you go for dinner, pop to the White Lion Bar and Terrace for a drink. The huge heated terrace offers beautiful views across the gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Dinner

the albion

When it comes to dinner, Clifton Village is the place to be if you want choice. For gastropub dining in a buzzing yet relaxed environment, look no further than The Albion Public House and Dining Rooms. The venue combines a relaxed restaurant serving sophisticated gastropub dishes with a vibrant pub frequented by welcoming and sociable locals and regulars.
